Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre

On behalf of the Ontario Heritage Trust, DWA worked with Entuitive Engineering’s Building Envelope Team to replace the roofing on Toronto’s famed Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre. Unique design challenges included a complex schedule of performances that had to be accommodated, considerable mechanical equipment already in place, and very tight site constraints – the theatre fronts onto Yonge Street, and is partially enveloped by the construction site for an adjacent high-rise residential building. Additionally, DWA provided heritage advice within the design team, ensuring that the new roofing design was sensitive to the building’s heritage status.
